,We are one of two Roman Catholic Parishes in the Transcona area which is part of the Archdiocese of St. Boniface. In January of 1960, with the population increasing, two new English parishes were established: Blessed Sacrament in the east end and St. Joseph the Worker in the west.
Notre Dame de L'Assomption was a third and the oldest of the Transcona Parishes. Notre Dame de L'Assomption operated from 1911 - 1959 as the only Roman Catholic Parish in Transcona and celebrated Mass in French, English, Italian and Polish. At the time of its closing in 2016, Mass was celebrated only in French.
The community of Blessed Sacrament originally met in the basement of the Catholic school on the site until 1966 when the parish church (pictured above) was constructed. Our original meeting place, the school, has become our parish centre. Since its closure as a Catholic school in 1968, it has become the home of our Catechism program (see PARISH LIFE tab) as well other faith formation and social activities.
